There are two ways for students to participate in a math bridge opportunity to move from Essentials/Readiness to grade-level math:
-
- Enrollment in a summer school course or middle school participation in the Concurrent School Year Bridge Opportunity (Spanish).
Students who wish to bridge from a non-honors course to an honors course may complete the honors math bridge opportunities. Please speak with your math teacher and school counselor.

Math Assessment as Part of Enrollment in SDUHSD
Before the start of the school year/during pre-enrollment:
Incoming Grade 7 & 8
- Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) - for students entering grade 7, the MDTP is an assessment of preparedness for 7th-grade mathematics. The results of the MDTP provide information on next course enrollment options.
- This online assessment is administered annually to 6th-grade students at the five feeder elementary schools - Cardiff, Del Mar, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, and Solana Beach.
- For students enrolling from non-feeder elementary schools, assessments are scheduled directly with the middle school.
- Integrated Math B Honors Readiness Test (IMBHRT) - an optional additional test for 6th-grade students designed to measure a student's readiness to take 8th-grade level Integrated Math B Honors as a 7th-grade student. This assessment is challenging and designed for students already on an accelerated math pathway. Any 6th-grade student who wishes to enroll in Integrated Math B Honors in 7th grade must take the IMBHRT and score 70% or higher.
Incoming Grade 9-12
Placement is based on student academic records and a district math placement assessment is offered to inform readiness for Integrated Math 1/1 Honors, Integrated Math 2/2 Honors or Integrated Math 3/3 Honors. Please contact the high school for assessment information.
After the start of the school year:
Grade 7 -12 Transferring/New to District Enrollees - Placement is based on student academic records and transfer/in-progress coursework. Math placement assessments may be offered. Please contact the middle school for assessment information.

For New SDUHSD 8th Grade Students:
If your student will be entering 8th grade for the 2025-2026 school year, we request that you provide their transcript from 7th grade showing the math class they completed. The math diagnostic test for incoming 8th-grader students is optional.
Integrated Math B Honors Readiness Test (IMBHRT)
The SDUHSD Integrated Math B Honors Readiness Test (IMBHRT) is an optional test for 6th-grade students. It is designed to measure a student's readiness to take 8th-grade level Integrated Math B Honors as a 7th-grade student. This assessment is challenging and designed for students already on an accelerated math pathway. Any student who wishes to enroll in Integrated Math B Honors in 7th grade must take the SDUHSD IMBHRT and score 70% or higher.
