The San Dieguito Union High School District operates under the Merit System for classified (non-teaching) employment. Classified positions include a broad range of assignments such as: instructional assistance, nutrition services, administrative support (clerical/secretarial), fiscal, custodial, grounds, transportation, maintenance, campus supervision, information technology, and other specialized functions.

What is a merit district?
A merit district requires that applicants be evaluated to ensure they are qualified for the position. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements of the position will be invited to participate the testing process. Job postings describe the type of test(s) that are required for each position.
Applicants who receive a passing score are then placed on an eligiblity list for the position.
What is an eligibility list?
An eligiblility list includes all applicants who passed the testing process. Each candidate is ranked on the list by the score they received on the test(s). The top 3 ranks are invited to interview for the position. A person may remain on the eligiblity list for up to 6 months.
How do find out the starting salary for a position?
The salary range for a position is listed on the job posting. You can also view the District Salary Schedule and Range Definitions here.
Typically new employees start at step 1 of the range for the position. However, exceptions may be made for positions that have been designated as "hard to fill" and the candidate has extensive work experience in the position.
What are the clearance requirements if offered a position?
To become employed by the District, a physical, including a TB test, drug screen, and a background check (fingerprint scan) through the Department of Justice and FBI must be successfully completed.
Does the District offer benefits?
Yes. Benefits include medical, dental, and life insurance. Employees may also be eligible to participate in CalPers (California Public Employees' Retirement System).
