San Dieguito Union High School District is hiring school bus drivers!  If you are looking to become a school bus driver, but don't have the neccesary training or license, we can help.  SDUHSD is offering a FREE training program for those who are interested in becoming a school bus driver.  The training program includes both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training.

Part 1: Classroom instruction, approximately 9 classes, approximately 4 hours in length at our Transportation Department located in Encinitas. 
 
The training program is unpaid, however, after completing the classroom training, participants can apply for temporary (substitute) Van Driver positions while they complete the remainder of the program.  Substitute Van Drivers are paid at $20.84 per hour.  
 
Participants who successfully complete this part of the program will advance to the Behind-the-Wheel Training.
 
Part 2: Behind-the-Wheel Training, 30 hours individually scheduled based on availability of instructors and participants.
 
Instructors will guide participants through the required DMV and California Highway Patrol licensing process.
 
Participants who successfully complete the training and licensing process can apply for current vacancies as a School Bus Driver with the District and may be selected for immediate or future openings.

School bus driver Job requirements, Pay, & benefits

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Once you complete the program, you'll need to provide the following in order to apply for a School Bus Driver position:
 
1) California Commercial Driver License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements, with Restriction 29, and without Restriction 48.
2) California Special Driver Certificate, valid for school bus operation, and must not have Restrictions 2, 3, 4, and 5. If Restriction 6 is indicated, must present a First Aid Card from an approved provider list.
3) Medical Examiner's Certificate with a valid date.
4) DMV Printout - California Driver's Record Report - must be dated within 30 days of application. Can be obtained at: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/customer-service/request-vehicle-or-driver-records/online-driver-record-request/
5) T-01 card
6) Adult CPR (must include "hands on" classroom training) and First Aid Certificates
 
Candidates will also need to pass a DOT drug and alcohol test.
 
RATE OF PAY:  $22.44 - $30.08 per hour.   Full-time - 30+ hours per week.  Part-Time positions also available.  
 
BENEFITS:  medical, dental, vision, and life insurance programs; generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay; and enrollment in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System.
