Jane Lea Smith, Vice-President (2023)

Jane Lea Smith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UC San Diego and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from National University. She worked for 16 years as a special education teacher and school administrator at non-public schools, serving students from districts throughout the San Diego region, including San Dieguito.
 
In 2010, Jane Lea began a new career as a human factors engineer. In her role as a consultant for medical device manufacturers, she collaborated with inter-disciplinary teams to understand research insights and prioritize needs that led to safe and effective device designs. She has conducted research for clients across the globe, including the US, Europe and Asia.
 
Jane Lea has been a dedicated parent volunteer in the district, supporting sports teams, Grad Nite and other student-centered activities. She was a board member of the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation, eventually serving as Board Vice President.
 
Now semi-retired, Jane Lea and her husband, Jim, are empty nesters living in Del Mar. Their daughter, Emma, attended Earl Warren Middle School and graduated from Canyon Crest Academy in 2022.
