Transportation
The Transportation Department workforce is well-organized, highly-trained and dedicated to student safety. Our professional staff works hard to maintain a valued service to our students, school and community. The State of California requires School Bus Drivers to complete an extensive training and licensing program in order to become a certified school bus driver.
The San Dieguito Union High School Transportation Department operates a fleet of 49 school buses to serve our students' with the highest needs. The fleet operates out of San Dieguito High School Academy. All District buses are tracked by GPS to enhance safety and security. San Dieguito Transportation is home to 42 classified employees; of which, there are 34 licensed School Bus Drivers, 3 Bus Aides and 4 members of the Garage Staff.
Restructuring of San Dieguito Transportation
At its meeting on June 18, 2020, the SDUHSD Board of Education made the decision to restructure the Transportation Department to better serve our students with the highest needs. As part of this restructuring comes the decision to eliminate middle school home-to-school transportation for general education students beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. The routes that will remain will be for students with special needs that require transportation as well as our two shuttle bus routes to Torrey Pines and Sunset High Schools for our low-income students.
This was a difficult decision for the Board and one that was taken with serious contemplation but one that was made in order to prevent cuts to the classroom.
