This survey will close on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

Task Force Update:

The first meeting of the Special Education Task Force, initially scheduled for Wednesday, September 20, 2017 has been postponed.

District staff reviewed parent applications with our two current North Coast Consortium for Special Education parent Community Advisory Committee representatives. We had an outpouring of applicants wanting to be on the Task Force and we thank every person who applied.  We have accepted the recommendations of the Community Advisory Committee representatives.

Parent Stakeholders:
Karen Rusnak
Lisa Shulman
Sophy Chaffee
Nancy Lazerson
Kent McIntyre

In response to input from our community that they would like to see more parents on the Task Force, as well as to reflect that we are in a multi-district Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), we are adding the three parent representatives from the North Coast Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to the Task Force. These additional parent representatives will be valuable resources and act as liaisons between the Task Force and NCCSE.

NCCSE Parent Community Advisory Committee Reps:
Julie Cheeseman-Law
JoAnne Stress
Amy Flicker

Although we had a pause in identifying a facilitator to lead this group, to keep this process moving forward, the next meeting scheduled for October 11, 2017 at La Costa Canyon will go on as planned and will be led by district staff.

Purpose:

A Special Education Task Force has been commissioned by the San Dieguito School Board to meet once a month from September 2017 to May 2018. The purpose of the Special Education Task Force is to analyze the current status of the Special Education program and to define an instructional delivery model that will ensure all students receive the highest level of service and support to meet the challenging demands of college and career.

Ultimately, this group will develop a strategic plan around Special Education services in the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD). The strategic plan will provide guidance around the structure of services for students with special needs so that they continue to access standards-aligned content, high quality learning environments, individualized support and resources in the least restrictive environment with priority placed on integration with general education peers that is monitored through multiple measures of achievement.  We believe it is essential to both inform and seek input from those impacted by these practices.  In order to accomplish this goal, we are forming a group of parents, students, and staff members to examine our Special Education services.

By June of 2018,  the Task Force will deliver a strategic planning document that will provide guidance, or a road map, upon which we will align our Special Education services within SDUHSD.  The plan will have  a central goal, strategies to address the goal and action steps that outline the sequence necessary to ensure each strategy is implemented in a specific, methodical, and consistent manner. The final Strategic Plan is intended to be a broad outline of the structure of the Special Education Program. A more detailed Special Education Program Implementation Guide will be developed to provide teachers and staff guidance on program implementation including policies, procedures and program evaluation.
