Seniors off-campus at Lunch
Dear Raven Families:
I am happy to announce that Seniors will have off campus privileges at
lunch beginning Sept. 17th. However, all seniors who wish to take advantage
of this privilege will need to fill out the Lunch
Pass Application and return it to the Finance office
before they will be allowed to leave campus. This pass requires a parent
signature and defines the expectations of all seniors who choose to leave
campus at lunch. Leaving campus at lunch is a privilege. Students who
do not follow the CCA Discipline Guide and or the rules stated on the
Lunch Pass Application may lose their privilege of leaving campus at lunch
and may be subject to further discipline actions.
A Reminder to Parents: CCA does not have any restaurants or stores in the immediate vicinity so it is highly likely that when students leave campus they will be driving on the freeway. Prior to completing the Lunch Pass Application parents may want to have a discussion regarding their child*s responsibility to drive and act safely on and off campus.

Principal, Canyon Crest Academy
Brian Kohn Named New Canyon Crest Academy Principal
San Dieguito Union High School District Superintendent Peggy Lynch recently announced the selection of Brian Kohn as new principal of Canyon Crest Academy. Kohn has served as the assistant principal at the school since 2004.
"We are very pleased to have Brian step into this role. He has been part of the heart and soul of this campus since it opened," Lynch said.
Prior to his role as the assistant principal, Kohn was a music teacher at Torrey Pines and Coronado high schools. While at Torrey Pines, he led a major effort to revitalize wthe district music program. At Canyon Crest Academy, Kohn played a critical role in the Envision program, the enriched arts opportunities for CCA students. He has also been leading a science and math effort for the upcoming school years.
Kohn said, "I am thrilled and honored to be given this opportunity to work in this district with such great students and parents."

A Letter from the new CCA Principal
July 2007
Dear Ravens,
This fall will mark the 4th year for Canyon Crest Academy. It is our first year with all four grade levels including our very first senior class. Our student population will grow to its maximum size of approximately 1800 students. With a fully populated school will come some very exciting changes in our developed programs and the initiation of some new programs:
- Athletics will now be fielding varsity teams in all CIF sports (with the exception of football).
- The exciting new specialized program in math and science entitled, “Quest” will be launched.
- Envision students will benefit from some new and extremely talented full-time teachers in the areas of theater, photography, art, and vocal music.
- The Raven’s Nest will be built and opened.
- Our new intern program will begin.
- New courses in Career Technical Education will be offered such as Recording Arts, Advanced Video Film, Advanced Photography, Laboratory Research Skills, and more.
CCA has already established itself as a premier school in the area of academic achievement. Our standardized test scores and AP pass rates are second to none. This year we will see the payoff for all the hard work put in by our students as they begin to be accepted into the finest colleges and universities in the country. We have also shown tremendous achievement in our athletic programs. We have often competed and emerged victorious against much larger and more established programs. Last year, Envision students clearly demonstrated that CCA is the powerhouse arts program in San Diego County. This year I have no doubt that in addition to our many regional awards the national recognitions will begin. Quest will prove to be an exciting new adventure. We will combine our tremendously talented students with our amazing staff in a project based program that will certainly result in exceptional student work.
On a personal note, I would like to say once again, how truly honored I am to be the new principal of Canyon Crest Academy. Working at Canyon Crest with its positive student centered culture is a dream come true. David Jaffe and our staff have done a phenomenal job in starting CCA and I will work hard to build on and add to our many accomplishments. I look forward to seeing you all at school.
Sincerely,
Brian Köhn
Principal
