San Dieguito Union High School District’s Initiative to build a stronger sense of inclusion

and belonging among our students and across our district.

ABOUT

ABOUT

The goal of our self-initiated One San Dieguito initiative is to build a stronger sense of inclusion and belonging among our students and across our district. One San Dieguito is a unifying initiative, meant to bring attention to the fact that while we are separate schools, we make up only one district. By encouraging a feeling of oneness across the district, it is our goal to make every voice heard and every student feel validated and valued.

We at the San Dieguito Union High School District are committed to being a leader for change within San Diego County by implementing a comprehensive, district-wide plan to equip students and district staff alike with the tools to speak out against instances of hate when they encounter them.

This initiative is the direct result of our LCAP Goal of BELONGING: All SDUHSD students, staff, families, and educational partners will engage in and contribute to a culture of BELONGING, where everyone is accepted, heard, included, and valued.

A Safe and Welcoming School for Everyone

A Safe and Welcoming School for Everyone

At San Dieguito Union High School District we believe every student deserves to learn in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. We are committed to protecting our students and ensuring everyone feels like they belong.

What We Do Not Tolerate (BP 5145.3 & BP 5145.9)

Under Board Policy 5145.3 (Nondiscrimination/Harassment), we strictly prohibit any form of discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or bullying at any school or district activity.
You cannot be treated unfairly, bullied, or targeted based on your actual (or perceived) identity, including:
  • Race, ethnicity, nationality, or immigration status
  • Sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or gender expression
  • Religion
  • Disability, medical condition, or genetic information
  • Pregnancy, parental, marital, or family status
  • Who you associate with (your friends, family, or groups)

Hate-Motivated Behavior is Never Okay. Under Board Policy 5145.9 Hate-Motivated Behavior, any actions meant to cause emotional distress, physical harm, or property damage because of someone's identity are strictly forbidden. Using bigoted slurs, threats, intimidation, or vandalism driven by bias or hate will not be tolerated.

How to Report Bullying or Harassment (AR 5131.2)

If you experience or witness bullying or harassment, we want to know so we can help. According to Administrative Regulation 5131.2 Bullying:
  • Who can report? Students, parents/guardians, or anyone who sees it happen.
  • Who do I tell? You can report the incident to any school employee—including a teacher, counselor, principal, or district compliance officer.
  • Your voice matters: If you are targeted, you will be given the opportunity to safely share your side of the story, identify witnesses, and provide any evidence of the bullying.

What Happens After You Report?

We take all reports seriously and act quickly to stop the behavior. AR 5131.2 guarantees the following steps:
  • Fast Action: Any school employee who receives a report or witnesses bullying must notify the principal within one business day.
  • Extra Protection: If the bullying is based on someone's protected identity (like their race, gender, or disability, as outlined in BP 5145.3), the principal will elevate the report to a district compliance officer within two business days to ensure the situation is handled with the highest level of support and care.

You do not have to face this alone. If you see something or experience something, please reach out to a trusted adult on campus today.

One San Dieguito Student Art Contest: In 2025-26, NCRC held a district-wide Student Art Contest. Students were invited to share what "belonging" looks like through their own voice and creative vision, with the prompt: What does our community look like at its best?

We are proud to celebrate our student winners, chosen by the NCRC selection panel:

Thank you to all of our students who participated!

RESPONDing to Harm: Living the San Dieguito Commitment

When harm happens, we need to respond, rather than just react. All students who experience bias-related harm should report to a trusted adult on campus, and those instances should be immediately reported to the site administration. Families/parents/guardians may also reach out directly to site administration for support.

The RESPOND model is another way to bring the vision of One San Dieguito to life by offering a clear, district-wide framework for handling harm with inclusion, accountability, and belonging at its core. While One San Dieguito unites us in the belief that every student should feel valued and heard, RESPOND gives us the tools to act on that belief, especially in difficult moments.

Developed in collaboration with the National Conflict Resolution Center, RESPOND is a trauma-informed, step-by-step process that prioritizes safety, supports all parties involved, ensures timely communication with families, and promotes fair, constructive outcomes.

By implementing RESPOND, we take another important step toward the inclusive and supportive school environments we’re committed to building, where every student feels they truly belong. The RESPOND pathway ensures a timely and consistent response to harm, and marks the beginning of a more complete process of repair, support, and accountability.
