Sunset High School Rules and Expectations
We are
looking forward to a great year, and we want you to be aware of some of
the guidelines that might help to guarantee that for you.
Attendance
§
School hours are 8:30-12:45—do NOT leave early. You are welcome to stay
later—there is a 5th period from 12:45-1:45.
§
You must make your hours (20 hours per week). If you don’t, you might
not be here.
§
If you are absent, please have a parent or guardian call in. You MUST
make up time for any absence or late arrival- no matter what the reason
for being out. No Exceptions!!
§
If you have to make up time, it must be done in a teacher’s room.
Plan for this!
§
Do not leave classrooms 15 minutes before break (10:10) or 15 minutes
before dismissal (12:30)—stay in your class, please.
§
Get your timecards from your advisor after 12:45. Never
take your time card home.
§
If you need to leave campus for any reason, please sign out in
the front office.
§
If you drive to school, you must park in the student lot on the east
side of the school.
Atmosphere
§
Please help to keep our campus and classrooms clean by picking up after
yourself. Our custodian is here very limited hours and he has a lot to
do. Picking up after you is not a part of his job.
§
Graffiti—no
writing on anything except paper (no walls, desks, doors, bathrooms)
§
Spitting is extremely unhealthy—please respect teachers and fellow
students by not
spitting on the ground. Use a trash can if you must
spit.
Behavior
§
RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY
are the two main guidelines here at Sunset. Treat others as you would
like to be treated.
§
Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.
§
Please respect teacher’s requests to stop talking, get to work or stop
being disruptive. If you don’t, you may be asked to go to your advisor’s
room. This may result in working in your advisor’s room for the rest of
the day or longer. If the negative behavior continues, a conference will
be scheduled with Mr. Rizzi and your parents.
§
Tobacco on campus is illegal. Please know that if you are caught in
possession of tobacco, paraphernalia, or actually smoking, you will
receive a ticket (about $175).
Cell Phones and pagers
§
Phones are TURNED OFF and put away during school time—they can be
used during break or after school (NOT during class time). If someone
needs to contact you, they can call the office, and you will be paged.
§
If found using your cell it will be taken away. Get it back from Mr.
Rizzi after school.
Schoolwork
and homework
§
Daily progress toward finishing your classes is expected. Please come to
school prepared to work and with a plan for the day. Don’t forget to ask
if you need help with work or planning a schedule!!
§
Homework is essential to academic success at Sunset—be sure to do some
every day.
Cheating
§
Sunset does have a cheating policy—be aware of it. All
teachers have a copy, just ask.
§
Be aware of plagiarism (copying 3 or more words from another source
without giving credit). This includes downloading papers from internet
and ‘cutting and pasting’.
§
Cheating of any kind results in being removed from a class for the rest
of the semester
Use of Computers
§
It is a privilege to use them—do not abuse it, or you may lose that
privilege.
§
Using a proxy to access a blocked site will result in no computer use
for a semester.
§
Computers are for school work. You must give up a computer to someone
who needs it if you are not using it for school work. (this especially
means using it for music only)
§
No e-mailing or games are allowed during school hours.
Phone and Xerox Machine
§
The office phone is to be used only for emergencies. Be sure to ask
first!
§
Students are not allowed to use the Xerox machine—only teachers and
aides may use it.
Communication
§
Advisors meet regularly to evaluate your progress.
§
Progress Reports are sent home every six weeks. Teachers comment on
effort, attitude, progress, and attendance. If you are not making
adequate academic progress, a meeting will be scheduled to review your
placement at Sunset.
§
Remember to communicate with teachers and advisors about what you’re
doing and what you plan to do.
§
If you are enrolled in a class, you are to be there! We can
change your schedule as often as you like, but be sure to attend the
classes in which you are enrolled.
We
are all looking forward to a great year with you!
