The community we serve is a diversified mix of high-technology and commercial endeavors. Emerging growth areas now include telecommunications, electronics, computers, software, and biotechnology.  A large number of research and development companies make up the San Dieguito community. These include medical and research institutions such as Scripps Institute, Scripps Healthcare and Scripps Hospitals, and the Salk Institute. High-tech companies such as Qualcomm and Oracle, and biotech firms ranging from research to pharmaceutical companies surround SDA. Other resources include educational institutions such as UCSD, CSU San Marcos and San Diego, and the University of San Diego.  Many residents are professionals working in high-tech industries, research, and education. Proximity to the border has contributed significant communities of (largely Hispanic) English learner families creating even more opportunities. SDA’s reputation is one of high academic standards, a strongly competitive environment, and caring and idealistic students and teachers.
