The function of the Risk Management Department is to help the District in the prevention of accidental or unintended losses and to minimize the financial impact when losses do occur. The following are some areas covered by Risk Management:

I. ASBESTOS
All schools have been inspected for the presence of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM). All friable ACBM has been either encapsulated or removed. Non-friable materials are periodically inspected to ensure they remain in good condition and do not pose a health hazard to staff or students.

VI. SAFETY COMMITTEES
Each school has a safety committee with representatives from certificated and classified staff. The committee is chaired by an assistant principal, who also sits on the District Safety Committee. Both the school and District safety committees discuss issues pertaining to staff, student, and public safety, such as hazardous conditions or practices, accidents and injuries, site security, emergency preparedness, property and liability concerns, or any other matter that might affect school safety.
VII. STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
The San Dieguito Union High School District does not provide medical insurance coverage for school accidents. This means that you are responsible for the medical bills if your child gets hurt during school activities. The District makes available student accident/health insurance plans for you to purchase to help you pay those bills. Many coverage options are available. The District does not administer these student health insurance plans and cannot answer any questions regarding coverage.

Bilingual representatives are available for parents who need assistance in Spanish.
VIII. WORKERS COMPENSATION
The San Dieguito Union High School District provides workers compensation benefits to all employees who may experience a work related injury.
In an Emergency Situation an employee should call 911 or if able, go to the nearest emergency medical facility.
All paperwork may be completed later.
In a Non-Emergency Situation an employee should immediately report the injury to their supervisor and complete all paperwork. If necessary, a workers compensation physician will be provided to treat the injured employee. The site representative has a list of authorized workers compensation physicians in the area or for a complete list of authorized physicians, you may access the on-line link for the Medical Provider Network (MPN).

An employee may be treated by their personal physician if an Employee Notification of Election of Personal Physician is on file at the District Office prior to the injury.

All work status reports provided by the workers compensation physician(s) must be provided to the employees supervisor as well as to Sue Barnes at the District Office.
IX. EXTENDED SICK LEAVE
The San Dieguito Union High School District provides sick leave benefits for all employees. An employee who anticipates being absent due to illness or injury for more than a few days should contact Sue Barnes for information on extended sick leave benefits such as sick leave balances, differential or 50% sick leave pay, donated sick leave, maximum sick leave benefits, leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and/or the California Family Rights Act (CFRA), leave under the Pregnancy Disability Leave Act (PDA), and information on District paid
disability insurance.
