GATE Statement of Philosophy
The San Dieguito Union High School District believes that each student should be helped to make the most of his or her potential. The goals of the GATE program reflect this philosophy. Gifted students are exceptional in any one or a combination of various areas of ability, and therefore, require educational experiences and service beyond the regular curriculum. These youngsters do not make it alone however, contrary to common myths about giftedness. Therefore, teachers, parents, and administrators must exert their own creative and intellectual abilities to challenge and motivate these young people.
Educators of the gifted believe in a school environment that fosters excellence and achievement of ones potential. This concept provides the impetus for the Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) program in the district. The Districts GATE program is meant to challenge the students, is committed to academic excellence, self-directed exploration, and instilling a respect for knowledge, all of which promote further learning.
